The Gastrointestinal Tract

From Dr. Morstein graduating from medical school 35 years ago, she has had a busy practice working with patients who have all types of gastrointestinal concerns.  Dr. Morstein started practicing in Montana, and saw many farmers/ranchers with GI complaints, and many had gut dysbiosis and parasites.  They had well worker over which cattle peed and pooped!  After spending 13 years in Montana, Dr. Morstein joined a naturopathic medical school in Tempe, AZ and she was gastroenterology professor there for 11 years, as well as Chair of Nutrition, and clinical supervisor in it’s out patient clinic. 

Dr. Morstein is a frequent lecturer on GI problems at medical conferences. She is a member of the Gastrointestinal Association of Naturopathic Physicians (the GastroANP) and in October, 2023 won that organization’s yearly, highly respected Borborygmus Award for her “Outstanding Contributions to the Field of Naturopathic Gastroenterology”. 

Dr. Morstein sees patients every day with these GI Complaints:

  1. Irritable bowel syndrome—normal stool and constipation/diarrhea types

  2. Small Intestine Bacterial Overgrowth/Intestinal Methanogen Overgrowth

  3. Gas/Bloating

  4. Gallbladder problems—gallstones or low/high bile secretion

The Hormone System

Dr. Morstein is an excellent physician for hormonal complaints.  She has gathered large amounts of experience and education on this complicated system.  Dr. Morstein is part of the Endocrinological Association of Naturopathic Physicians, and lectures regularly on hormonal conditions at medical conferences. 

Dr. Morstein has written a book on diabetes, is a masterful prescriber of post-menopausal bioidentical hormones and has enabled full remission in all patients who presented with Grave’s disease.  The success Dr. Morstein has had working with patients in the hormonal field is consistent and impressive. 

Dr. Morstein sees patients everyday with these hormonal complaints:

  1. Diabetes—Dr. Morstein is one of the best diabetic physicians in the country.  Her book “Master Your Diabetes: A Comprehensive, Integrative Approach To Both Type 1 and Type 2 Diabetes” is incredibly well written and respected.  (You can buy it on Amazon—check out the fantastic reviews!).  Dr. Morstein is exceedingly comnpetent in working with all types of diabetes patients—pediatric onset Type 1, adult onset Type 1 (LADA), and all ages with Type 2.  Dr. Morstein is excellent with insulin balancing and has lectured on all types of diabetes, including how to use insulin properly, at many medical conferences in the US and Europe.  

  2. Hypothyroidism (both with and without Hashimoto’s)—the important of this is to get patients feeling good and ensuring labs are in acceptable ranges.

  3. Graves Disease (hyperthyroidism)

  4. Menstrual disorders—bleeding too frequently, too heavily, having too much PMS, fibroids/cysts

  5. Polycystic Ovarian Syndrome (PCOS)

  6. Perimenopause and Menopausal symptoms: hot flashes, vaginal dryness, migraines, weight gain, low libido, bone loss.

  7. Adrenals: too high/low cortisol levels, adrenal fatigue

 Chronic Disease 

Dr. Morstein sees many patients with chronic diseases, such as hypertension, or auto-immune conditions, skin conditions, CIRS (chronic inflammatory Response Syndrome), long COVID, and others.  She does not treat Lyme disease, PANDAS.  She has many different ways of working with patients to uncover what is preventing healing and to stimulate immune system balancing, reduce inflammation and get patients feeling all around better. 

 

Dr. Morstein sees patients everyday with these chronic disease complaints:

  1. Collagen Vascular Auto-immune conditions: Lupus, fibromyalgia, rheumatoid arthritis, etc.

  2. Hypertension;  elevated lipid panels

  3. Overweight/Obesity—a complicated condition, Dr. Morstein works to uncover all the reasons for this and help a patient navigate safe, permanent weight loss.

  4. Skin conditions: psoriasis, eczema, acne vulgaris, acne rosacea

  5. Post-cancer prevention protocols—Dr. Morstein is not a primary doctor for active cancer patients, but has successfully set up recurrence prevention protocols that has been enormously beneficial to her patients.

  6. Biotoxin detoxification (with or without Chronic Inflammatory Response Syndrome)  from mycotoxins, metals, or chemicals as the uncovered etiological factor.
